News and/or Rants!

    Hey Everybody,

Jake here, to tell everybody what is goin' on. :) first Di's car has a window shortage. Thats right, one of her windows shattered on Sunday, only 1 hour from the start of our LOTR tickets :(. well anyway, she has a temp window, and it should be in the shop by Friday, if all goes well. She didn't get much sleep over the weekend, and, for that and a number of other reasons, (including her car) she asked me to do this rant. Finally, before we start the review, For this month, as a good test, we will be doing a new comic every day of the work week. This month is a good time to test how much of an extra load this will be. If we like it, we will continue it for longer. And, with all that stuff out of the way, THE REVIEW OF LORD OF THE RINGS: RETURN OF THE KING!

First let me point out, ITS THE BEST MOVIE I SAW ALL YEAR!!! and, instead of normal movie categories for points, we will have a special set of categories.

1.    Plot .75/1

Of course I should giving it full credit. It is one of the best trilogies ever. However, this is not rating the plot, but rather how close the plot was to the book. This is my favorite out of the three books. There is one book discrepancy that I have noticed, and was quite upset about it, after checking it in the book. It is when Merry and Eowyn defend the fallen Theoden from The Witch-King. That is probably my favorite scene in the whole of the trilogy (I say probably because really it is the whole battle and every little bit in it). Well, I do agree that the scene was well set up plot wise, but so was the original. They wouldn't have had to put that much extra time or effort into getting it closer to the book. Their version took the same amount of time. Everything else that was left out is okay, in that rather than change what happened, they dropped things altogether. I dislike the change in certain areas, while leaving stuff out is not so bad... Also, they changed what troops Aragorn used at that same battle, I am not so upset at this one, as they diddn't give him his troops in the Two Towers. (I know, I'm a purist... I can help it.)

2.    Special Effects 1/1

Well, They delivered the special effects wonderfully. The decent from Smeagol to Gollum rocked! Also, the Witch-King, and his Death were particularly nice. Lets not forget, oh, the HORDES of Mordor Orcs. I could point out some problems about what you can and can't see from outside the Black Gates, when they are open... The reason I don't is that neither I or anyone else actually know what some views would look like. We do however, actually know what was said, and by who though. Oh, and the Siege of Minas Tirith was perfect in with J. R. R. Tolkien's description. Lets not forget about Shelob! Let me just say this... WOW.

3.    Acting 1/1

What can I say? Peter Jackson knows how to cast people. Tell me one person that didn't look like who they were supposed to be. Although, I do think that Denethor looked a little more sinister than I thought from the book, but everyone thinks of characters a little differently, and since only 1 character out of who knows how many was a little out of place (but still good), I would call that a good set of Acting people. :)

4.    Length .75/1

Again, what can I say? This is a long movie! At over 3 hours and 30 min, this is a bladder buster! It only loses points for not having an intermission, Which might have been nice...

5.    Miscellaneous 1/1

Look, I didn't know what to expect from Peter Jackson, but he did deliver. Since I watched a 3 and a 1/2 hour long movie and only have 1 minor character and a 3 min scene to complain about, that's pretty good. That and I even forgot that I was only 3 rows from the very front, which is not a fun place for me to be, movie watching wise. kudos! A third and Final Good Movie!

Huzzah!

Total: 4.5 out of 5.

Reasoning: I am to much of a purist and a fanboy to not complain, but it IS the best movie of the year!

And, since Di was unable to do the rant and the review, I am going to sign off with her style.
